This past weekend I finally ran my first 5K race. I have completed a number of 5K races but never ran one from start to finish, & I am so glad it was the Elephant Run. This was the fourth year for the race & the last two years I walked it. I think it's safe to say that when you find a reason to run it makes it harder to stop. My goal was to complete the race in under 35 minutes & I did!
I am already preparing for next year... lol. Everyone in our group did amazing. They either made their goal or placed in their age group! My sister also ran the entire race pushing her daughter in a stroller! Her time was 28:08!
The purpose of this race has a special place in our hearts which I will share as you continue reading. I hope that if this post touches you in any way to please consider racing with us next year & check out their Facebook page for ways to support this cause.
Fun Fact
Elephants have incredible memories.
The Elephant Run 5K is a fundraiser put on by a non-profit organization called Forget-Me-Not Baskets.
Forget-Me-Not Baskets provides items of comfort & support to those who have experienced a loss during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly after birth.

We were first introduced to Forget-Me-Not Baskets in June of 2017. It wasn't by choice, and it was single-handedly one of the hardest experiences I've gone through & I'm so thankful they were there. Not for me, but for my sister & brother-in-law.
They were expecting their first child. My first nephew. My parents' first grandchild. At 18 weeks, the plan changed because her water broke & three weeks later she delivered. At 21 weeks many of the vital organs are not developed enough which makes survival rare. My nephew, Beau, is an angel baby & he is the reason I ran this past weekend. He is the reason Terra & Tyler run their hearts out every year. He is the reason Rilynn, our rainbow after the storm, ran her first race this year.

Side note: during this event, Forget-Me-Not has a few different races that take place before the 5K and it is truly heart-warming to watch. There are three races for kids- age categories 2&under, 3-4 & 4-6. Then they have a one Mile run and finally the 5K run/walk. It's really a great time for the whole family!
Terra & Tyler got to run that the first year. They did it together, just the two of them after their loss in his memory. The following year they invited family & friends, last year a little more, & this year a little more.
The three on the right missed the group picture because they were donating baskets. <3
Every year we buy a basket to donate because we got to see the difference they can make. The comfort they provide during such a painful experience.

Last weekend, we ran, we raced & we remembered. We love you, Beau!

Always,
Erikka
